The most important perimeter may be an approval

Why privileged access needs business ownership as well as stronger authentication.

Office of CISO, GENELLIPSE

Business risk. Practical decisions. Evidence.

An account can look legitimate while the action it performs is inappropriate. Protecting the business therefore requires both confidence in the identity and a clear limit on what that identity may do. Access should reflect a current task, not accumulated history.

01 / UNDERSTAND

The business issue

Permanent administrative privileges make routine operations convenient but can enlarge the impact of a stolen session or mistaken action. NIST zero trust guidance rejects implicit trust based only on network location. In business terms, being inside the organization is not sufficient permission to change everything.

Your action guide

Explore each step, then use the questions with your business and technology teams.

DECISION INTO ACTION

Separate everyday and elevated work

Identify the most consequential administrative actions. Give elevated work a distinct access path and use phishing-resistant authentication where supported, including a secure recovery process.

Make privilege temporary

Define the task, resource, approver and expiry for elevated access. Test emergency access so controls remain workable when the normal identity service is unavailable.

Review the action

Retain appropriate access and change evidence. Check whether the approved task was completed within scope and remove permissions when the engagement ends.

Review the evidence. Revisit the decision.
Ask the leadership team

Who can authorize a production change, and who verifies that the authority has ended?

03 / VERIFY

What to measure

Establish your baseline and agree targets for the service. These are suggested measures, not claimed results.

Standing privilege

High-impact roles still granted permanently.

Expired access

Permissions active beyond their approved task or contract.

Emergency readiness

Emergency access routes exercised and reviewed.

How Genellipse helps

GeneSecure

GeneSecure can bring identity-related risk and activity evidence into a shared investigation workflow. Genellipse helps connect that information to the services and decisions exposed by excessive access.

Explore GeneSecure

GeneComply

GeneComply can organize access-review evidence, policy exceptions and approval records. Identity enforcement remains in the connected identity and access systems; we design and validate those integrations with your team.

Explore GeneComply

Begin with the administrators of one revenue-critical application. A smaller, verified privilege boundary is more valuable than an incomplete organization-wide campaign.
