Prove your controls on an ordinary Tuesday

A business-led cyber exercise that turns assumptions into decisions.

Office of CISO, GENELLIPSE

Business risk. Practical decisions. Evidence.

The best time to discover an unclear decision, a missing contact or an unusable recovery instruction is before a real incident. An effective exercise is a rehearsal of business choices, not a performance designed to prove that every team was already right.

01 / UNDERSTAND

The business issue

A tabletop can reveal gaps without touching production. It should still create operational consequences in the discussion: delayed payments, an unavailable supplier, uncertain data integrity and a customer waiting for an answer. The exercise succeeds when those consequences lead to owned improvements.

02 / ACT

Your action guide

Explore each step, then use the questions with your business and technology teams.

DECISION INTO ACTION

Choose one consequential journey

Select a service and a plausible disruption. Agree the exercise boundaries, participants and decision objectives. Keep production systems untouched unless a separate, authorized technical test is planned.

Introduce uncertainty deliberately

Remove a normal contact, delay a supplier answer or challenge a recovery assumption. Ask participants to state their evidence, authority and fallback rather than guessing what the facilitator wants.

Close the improvement loop

Assign each finding an owner, action and acceptance test. Rehearse the corrected step before closing the finding, and report unresolved business decisions to the accountable executive.

Review the evidence. Revisit the decision.
Ask the leadership team

Which assumption would we most regret discovering was wrong during a real incident?

03 / VERIFY

What to measure

Establish your baseline and agree targets for the service. These are suggested measures, not claimed results.

Decision clarity

Critical decisions with a named authority and a workable fallback.

Verified improvements

Exercise findings retested successfully after remediation.

Residual uncertainty

Important assumptions still unproven at the next review.

Use this in your next risk review
