You cannot govern AI you cannot see

Build an inventory that explains business use, not just model names.

Business context. Practical action. Shared accountability.

UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGE

The business issue

An AI policy is difficult to operate when the organization does not know where AI is used. A useful inventory connects each use to its purpose, users, information, authority and accountable owner.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

01

Inventory the use, not only the tool

Record the business task, people affected, data sources and decisions influenced. Include embedded vendor features and experimental uses that have moved into normal work. A model name alone does not explain risk; the same model can support a low-consequence drafting task or a material business decision.

02

Make accountability visible

Assign a business owner and identify technical, risk and operational reviewers. Record the permitted scope and important limitations. An inventory entry should lead to a decision about oversight rather than becoming a static list maintained for an annual presentation.

03

Keep the record alive

Tie inventory updates to procurement, release and material workflow changes. Review uses whose ownership has changed or whose original purpose has expanded. Retire obsolete entries with a record of what happened to their data, integrations and dependencies. Governance needs a current view of actual use, not an idealized view of approved intentions.

How Genellipse can help

Genellipse can help map AI uses and establish review workflows with Cortex AI and GeneComply. The first deliverable should be a usable inventory connected to decisions, not an unsupported assertion that every use is compliant.

Cortex AI can support governed agent workflows and review coordination; GeneComply can organize control evidence; GeneSecure can support the agreed security processes. Genellipse helps design responsibilities, access and escalation around the business use case. Neither an AI platform nor a framework mapping automatically establishes legal compliance or transfers executive accountability.
