Price the completed outcome, not the AI interaction

A low unit price can conceal a costly business process.

UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGE

The business issue

An inexpensive model call does not make an inexpensive service. The full cost may include retrieval, orchestration, repeated attempts, monitoring and professional review. Finance needs a cost boundary that follows the task to an accepted business outcome.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

01

Choose a useful denominator

Define the outcome being purchased: an accepted document assessment, a correctly routed case or an approved response. Include rejected and incomplete attempts in the cost of producing successful outcomes. Keep simple and complex case types visible so a changing mix does not create a misleading improvement.

02

Trace costs through the workflow

Record relevant compute, data retrieval, integration and human effort. Distinguish marginal usage costs from fixed operating commitments. Avoid allocating every shared platform cost arbitrarily to one early use case; explain the allocation method and how it changes as adoption grows.

03

Put controls where spending begins

Set limits for repeated attempts, expensive tools and unbounded task expansion. Route unsuitable work to a person before the system consumes more resources without improving quality. Review cost together with acceptance quality. A cheaper output that increases downstream correction can reduce total value.

FROM DISCUSSION TO ACTION

A sequence your team can use

Select each stage to explore the proposed action. Adapt the sequence and controls to your business context.

AN ILLUSTRATIVE OPERATING SEQUENCE

Define

Specify an accepted outcome and its quality conditions.

↻ Review the evidence. Learn from exceptions. Refine the next decision.

Define. Specify an accepted outcome and its quality conditions.

Trace. Include attempts, platform costs and review effort.

Control. Apply budget boundaries and review expensive exceptions.

MEASURE WHAT MATTERS

Look for evidence of improvement

Establish a baseline and agree appropriate targets. These are proposed measures, not claims of customer results.

01

Cost per accepted outcome

Complete operating cost divided by accepted results.

02

Rework burden

Effort caused by rejected or incomplete outputs.

03

Cost variance

Differences explained by case mix and operating choices.

How Genellipse can help

Genellipse can help instrument Cortex AI workflows and combine operational evidence with GeneAnalytics. The engagement can begin with a bounded use case whose quality and cost can both be tested.

Genellipse can connect GeneData cost and operational records with GeneAnalytics reporting, supported by architecture and transformation services. We agree a baseline, accountable benefit owners and a method for verifying outcomes. Cortex AI can assist defined analytical workflows with human review. Commercial commitments and achievable savings depend on the agreed scope and evidence; illustrative calculations are not promised returns.
