A merger synergy needs an integration plan

Convert an acquisition assumption into a controlled operating change.

UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGE

The business issue

An acquisition model may assume savings from shared platforms, consolidated infrastructure or a common service team. Those benefits depend on integration work that has its own cost, sequence and operational risk. Finance should track the dependency behind each material synergy.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

01

Build a synergy-to-change map

For each proposed benefit, identify the applications, data, contracts and process changes needed. Name the owner of the resulting operation. Distinguish an accounting allocation from expenditure that can actually be removed. Expose benefits that rely on the same enabling change so they are not counted twice.

02

Plan the period of coexistence

Include parallel systems, reconciliation, migration support and the capacity needed to resolve exceptions. Establish a decision gate before moving customer transactions. A delayed migration changes both benefit timing and transition costs; the forecast should reflect both effects rather than retaining the original saving date.

03

Verify the combined operation

Assess service quality and control performance alongside cost reduction. Confirm that retired systems, support arrangements and contracts have genuinely ended. Keep the evidence needed to explain transferred balances and customer records. Integration success is an operating outcome, not simply a completed technical cutover.

FROM DISCUSSION TO ACTION

AN ILLUSTRATIVE OPERATING SEQUENCE

Connect

Link each synergy to the changes that enable it.

↻ Review the evidence. Learn from exceptions. Refine the next decision.

Connect. Link each synergy to the changes that enable it.

Sequence. Fund coexistence, reconciliation and acceptance.

Confirm. Verify the new service and the cost actually removed.

MEASURE WHAT MATTERS

Look for evidence of improvement

Establish a baseline and agree appropriate targets. These are proposed measures, not claims of customer results.

01

Synergy evidence

Claimed benefits supported by completed operating changes.

02

Integration variance

Timing and cost differences reflected in forecasts.

03

Continuity

Customer and reporting outcomes preserved through cutover.

How Genellipse can help

Genellipse can support technology due diligence, data reconciliation and integration architecture. For insurance portfolios, AegisNow and GeneData can support agreed workflow and reconciliation needs alongside the client’s existing systems.

Genellipse can connect GeneData cost and operational records with GeneAnalytics reporting, supported by architecture and transformation services. We agree a baseline, accountable benefit owners and a method for verifying outcomes. Cortex AI can assist defined analytical workflows with human review. Commercial commitments and achievable savings depend on the agreed scope and evidence; illustrative calculations are not promised returns.
